If excess is about this, bring it, we say! In 2025, Met Gala, Natasha Poonwalla, enchanted the attendees with a custom dress by Manish Malhotra, which originally mixed her ancestral roots with avant-garde fashion. The Parsi Gara Embroidery, mainly in his organization, was very close to a craft house.
Natasha Poonwal’s Met Outfit
The centerpiece of her attire was a sculpted fishtail skirt, which was carefully prepared from two vintage garas Saris – one which was seen by Manish Malhotra from the archives and the other at an older than a century. The skirt demonstrated the complicated hand tightened motifs, and to complement it, a corset-karmband was paired with a vintage French lace brlt, which was on the ground in the scalloped beads, which was the essence of dandism.

A rapidly sewn black slurry jacket with bold shoulders, draped on the dress, was line in the royal purple, a color that is historically associated with strength and nobility. Embroidery appeared in the sacred unity technique in the jacket, where a single continuous thread narrates an unbreakable story. Connecting a touch of dramaticness, a sculpture lace cravat adorned the collar by Atalier Bierer.
About Parsi Gara Embroidery
The Parsi Gara Embroide was born in the 19th century and is a fusion of Persian, Chinese, Indian and European influences. The form of embroidery was introduced by Parsi traders in India who were returning from China. Eventually, the Parsi became a symbol of the situation within the community and became integral to the bride’s wear. The embroidery is characterized by the motifs of flora, organisms and mythological beings. The gara embroidery is traditionally executed on silk clothing, requiring immense skills and patience.
