India carries high burden of eye cancer: how to identify initial signs

Eye cancer is rare, but in India, the burden is quite high. While more than 70% to 80% of cases are detected in adults, the rest are seen in children. One of the most common forms of eye cancer is retinoblastoma, and according to a recent study by doctors at the LV Prasad Eye Institute, it can be cured if caught early, especially in children.

Nevertheless, many people are still unaware of the signs, and the diagnosis often comes very late.

General signal and symptoms

One of the biggest challenges with eye cancer is that its symptoms can be subtle or even invisible in the first. Regular eye check-up is often the only way to catch it quickly.

“Some common symptoms may include the expansion of the affected side, headache, blurred or eyeball on partial vision, a dark place on the iris that grows in size, an eye bulging, frequent redness or pain, and flashing lights or flashing lights or flashing lights or flors in vision or double vision.”

Some people may also notice changes in the size or size of the pupil. These symptoms can not always be caused by cancer, but they should never be ignored.

In children, a white glow in the pupil (often seen in flash photographs), passed eyes, or vision issues may be an early signs of retinoblastoma.

In adults, cancer -like cancer -like cancer may appear as vision changes on the eye or dark spots.

What is the cause of eye cancer?

There is no reason, but many factors can increase the risk. This includes:

  • Genetic mutation (some types can walk in families)
  • UV exposure
  • Light -colored eyes (more sensitive to UV)
  • Smoking
  • A weaker immune system
  • Eye conditions already existing

In his study published in ophthalmology, doctors at the LV Prasad Eye Institute reported that some lifestyle habits and environmental risk can play a role.

Diagnosis and treatment

If eye cancer is suspected, the first step is a complete test by a specialist.

This may be followed by scans such as an MRI or CT, or even a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis.

Treatment depends on many factors, such as the type and phase of cancer.

  • Chemotherapy: Often used to shrink tumor
  • Radiation therapy: such as plaque brachytherapy, where radiation is placed near the tumor
  • Laser Therapy or Cryotherapy: To destroy small tumors
  • Surgery: In severe cases, by removing the entire content of the eye (enclusion) or eye socket (Accentation)
  • Immunotherapy or targeted therapy: for advanced or resistant cases

Why initial identity matters

Even though eye cancer is reduced by 0.2% of all cancers in India, they can have disastrous effects, especially in children.

In cases where cancer spreads beyond the eye (extra expansion), survival rate falls. The study found that children with such advanced diseases had great risk of death, especially when treated with low methods.

Not ignoring abnormal symptoms such as regular eye examination, especially for children, and vision loss, changes in the appearance of embossed eyes, or eyes, are important to catch the disease quickly.
