Trigger warning: This article contains mentions of sex and vulgar language
Andrew Garfield has a taste for Netflix’s reality dating show Too Hot to Handle! Speaking to the magazine, the We Live in Time actor talked about his favorite “guilty pleasure” reality show and what attracted him most about it. “F—, it’s really good,” he said of the British dating show.
The Amazing Spiderman actor explained that “hot” contestants are invited onto the show and sent to a Love Island. Initially, it will look like the stereotypical dating show as people will start pairing up, forming relationships and having parties. “They’re just sexy, hot people,” Garfield said. “But wait, this is where the twist comes,” he teased.
The contestants’ dreams turn into nightmares when they are told the rules of Too Hot to Handle. So whenever a situation gets too heated, the people involved will be out of the competition. Basically, it’s a test of one’s patience and control over one’s fluctuating hormones when placed in a steamy situation. The actor further added, “There is a monetary prize in it and you can win it only if you do not betray each other.”
But wait, it gets even weirder. The competition is controlled by the robot Lana who announces that the contestants have been selected because they are afraid of intimacy. Anyone who is physically involved without emotional connection will be charged a fine and the amount will be deducted from the prize money.
Now these sensual people living in a confined space must fight against each other’s resistance to win the competition. The actor shared even more strange details of the show, including how the robot allocates a type of physical intimacy based on people’s emotional connection.
“The robot tells them, ‘You guys are making a nice emotional connection. You have five minutes to like each other, to talk, to speak,'” Garfield said. When asked, the actor named another reality show for which he has great respect, and it is the British version of The Traitors. “Claudia Winkleman is the greatest. The Tik Tik Boom actor said, “I don’t know if a better television show has ever been made.”
