It’s official: Moto Edge 50 is the thinnest MIL-STD-810H phone, launching on August 1

Despite three variants of the Motorola Edge 50 already being available, there is still no single model. That is changing next week as Motorola India and Flipkart will introduce the Motorola Edge 50.

The phone will launch on August 1 (next Thursday) and will be available on Motorola’s own online store, Flipkart, and major retailers in the country. The Flipkart landing page gives a glimpse of the phone.

The front of the Moto Edge 50 has a curved 6.67″ P-OLED display. Its resolution is listed as “1.5K”, presumably the same or very close to the Fusion’s 1,220 x 2,712 pixels. It’s a 10-bit panel with 100% DCI-P3 coverage and can hit 1,900 nits of brightness. There’s also a fingerprint reader built inside.

Moto Edge 50 will be the thinnest MIL-STD-810H phone, Flipkart reveals more details

The phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor, which is a step down from the 7S Gen 2 present in the Edge 50 Fusion. The 7 Gen 1 was previously used in the Razr 40 foldable. The chipset will be paired with 256GB of storage and a vapor chamber to keep it cool.

Motorola is promising 50 years of OS updates for the Edge 3, as well as four years of security patches.

The 5,000mAh battery will support both 68W fast wired charging and 15W wireless. This is a step up from the Fusion, which lacks wireless. And that’s not the only upgrade.

The main camera will use the Sony Litia 700C, which is the 50MP 1/1.56” sensor also found in the Fusion. However, this model is also equipped with a 10MP telephoto camera with “30x zoom”, which we assume means 3x optical. There’s also a 13MP 120° ultra-wide camera, which appears to be capable of macro shots. Finally, a 32MP selfie camera.

Motorola calls it the “world’s thinnest MIL-STD-810H military grade certified” phone, though we haven’t seen its thickness yet. It’s been tested against drops, vibrations, extreme temperatures (both high and low), and salt fog. It’s also IP68 rated and has a metal frame (no information on glass yet).

The Motorola Edge 50 is available in three colours. Two have vegan leather backs (Jungle Green and Pantone Peach Fuzz) and one has vegan suede (Koala Grey).
