Four weeks after Iran attacked Israel with ballistic missiles in retaliation for an attack on ally Hezbollah, the Jewish state responded at a time of its choosing. Tensions in the region have never subsided and now Iran says it is ready to respond with ‘aggressive action’.
Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, citing sources, reported that Iran was ready to respond to any Israeli “aggression”. “There is no doubt that Israel will face a proportionate response to any action,” Tasnim quoted sources as saying.
The Israeli military has warned Iran that it would “pay a heavy price” if it triggered a new round of tensions.
Israel counterattacked
Iranian state TV reported “loud explosions” around Tehran on Saturday morning, without specifying their cause. The semi-official Tasnim news agency said no rockets or aircraft were reported in the skies over Tehran at the time of the explosions.
Iranian state TV claimed that the explosions heard around Tehran were due to “activation of air defense systems”. “The loud explosions heard around Tehran were related to the activation of the air defense system against the actions of the Zionist regime, which struck three locations outside the city of Tehran,” state TV reported.

Iranian officials suggested that the noise may have been related to defensive measures, pointing to the possibility that Iran’s air defense system had been activated.
In addition to Tehran, residents of the nearby city of Karaj reported hearing explosions. Iranian officials say operations at key sites such as Imam Khomeini International Airport, Mehrabad Airport and a major oil refinery south of Tehran were “normal” and unaffected by the attacks. However, according to Iran’s Fars News Agency, several military targets near Tehran were reportedly targeted by Israeli forces.
Israeli officials said the attacks were justified as self-defense measures. IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari also urged Israeli citizens to “remain alert and vigilant.”
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and other officials are assessing the security situation after the attack. Meanwhile, Iran has suspended all flights until further notice.

Hours before midnight, Iran attacked Israel with missiles and rockets as tensions rose in the Middle East following artillery and air strikes on Lebanon targeting the Shia militant group and Iran’s strong ally Hezbollah.

Missiles were raining down on Israel and the Iron Dome and Arrow air defense systems were in action to intercept and neutralize the targets. Israeli media reported that Iran fired more than 100 missiles and several videos showed debris from the intercepted missiles falling on Israeli cities.
