Is Kevin Costner keen to direct the third part of Horizon despite the poor performance of the first film? Know what the actor revealed

Kevin Costner is planning to take over the director’s chair for the third installment of Horizon. During his recent appearance at the Venice Film Festival, the actor opened up about the poor box office performance of the franchise’s first film.

Costner claimed that he was determined to make the potential film a success with his assistance. The actor shared that according to him, the reason the film did not receive good reviews was because Warner Bros. Studio kept pushing back the release date of the second part.

The Yellowstone star shared with the audience at the event, “I think it was probably a reaction to the release of 1 — it didn’t have a lot of success.” He added, “It was the studio’s decision to release it six weeks later, and it became the studio’s position not to release it sooner.”

Sharing his experience over the years in the film industry, Costner claimed that even movies that don’t succeed at the box office end up becoming classics.

“I’ve made a lot of movies like this that have stood the test of time,” the Dances With Wolves actor said, adding, “For me, it comes down to my plan, which was this: I always wanted to release the films at about five, six-month intervals, and that gave me the opportunity to come to Venice.”

Meanwhile, speaking excitedly on the making of Horizon’s Chapter 3, Costner revealed that they had to hurry to deliver the best story to audiences.

Addressing the audience at the Venice Film Festival, the Water World actor said, “I have to hurry up and not let the rock fall down. I have to put my hands on it again and start pushing it up.” The actor got emotional and added, “This is a rope I can’t let go of. I don’t know how I’m going to make 3 right now, but I’m going to make it.”

The first Horizon film hit theaters in June 2024 and earned around $34 million, which was considered a below-average amount. Horizon: The American Saga, Chapter 1, is currently streaming on Max, while the release of the second film will be announced soon by the producers.
