Iran bashing won’t reopen Strait of Hormuz: Ro Khanna says Obama-like politics needed now

Ro Khanna says bashing Iran will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Democratic Representative Ro Khanna expressed surprise at President Donald Trump’s Truth Social post full of derogatory terms for Iran and said the President is failing US troops in Iran. Khanna said on NBC’s Meet the Press that he would not vote for any additional funding for the war. In a Truth Social post this morning, Trump angrily warned Iran that if it did not reach a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz before Tuesday, the country would be “living in hell.” The choice of words was criticized. “Well, I’m relieved and this is an extraordinary accomplishment by our troops. I mean, they really deserve applause. But you know, Kristen, what the thing is – is that the President is really failing them. Putting out a tweet this morning and threatening war crimes, saying we have destroyed Iran’s ballistic missile capability and yet they are shooting at troops flying over it. We have to end this war now. We need an immediate ceasefire. Iran, Israel and the United States need to stop the bombing and find a negotiated solution, Khanna said.

A US airman missing after his fighter plane was shot down in Iran on Friday has been rescued. Khanna praised the rescue operation while condemning the President’s continued threats.Khanna said that America now needs a politician like Barack Obama.“I tell you what will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz: threatening war crimes or indiscriminately bombing power plants, bashing Iran. We need a politician like President Obama. We need to stop the bombing, have a ceasefire and then work with Oman, work with China, work with Gulf allies and European allies to find a solution to keep the Strait of Hormuz open. But this is not going to happen by escalating tensions on a large scale,” Khanna said. “No, I’m not supporting new funding. I mean, they’re asking for $400 billion. The answer for every Democrat should be “absolutely not, absolutely not.” We don’t need to read it. We don’t need to study it. The war we oppose is $400 billion? We could do universal child care for that. We could create free public college for that. We could do that by paying teachers $60,000. I call it the new economic patriotism. Democrats should oppose this funding and say, ‘We are really for the American people,'” Khanna said.
