iPhone Air battery is not enough? Apple is probably planning a big surprise for you with the iPhone Air 2
Apple is reportedly working to fix the iPhone Air’s biggest shortcomings with the upcoming iPhone Air 2, focusing on better battery life and better camera capabilities.

Apple introduced the iPhone Air in 2025, its thinnest iPhone to date. While the new iPhone looked premium in every way with its sleek design and pro-grade hardware, two things made it feel a little short of perfection: the single rear camera and the modest battery life. However, if reports are to be believed, Apple may fix both these problems with the next generation iPhone Air.
The introduction of the original iPhone Air earned much praise for its design and overall experience. However, users were also not behind in highlighting areas that needed improvement. Battery capacity and camera versatility became the biggest talking points, especially since Apple positioned the iPhone Air in its premium lineup, right below the Pro model. Now, as Apple is preparing the next generation of iPhone Air – presumably the iPhone Air 2 – multiple industry reports suggest that the company is finally addressing these concerns.
iPhone Air 2 will launch with new upgrades
According to a recent report sourced from The Elec and highlighted by GSMArena, the iPhone Air 2 is expected to benefit from the new CoE (Color on Encapsulation) display technology. This advanced display is supposed to be thinner and more power-efficient than current panels, especially in bright outdoor conditions where screens typically draw more power to enhance visibility.
A thin display can have a big impact inside a phone. With the screen assembly taking up less space, Apple may eventually be able to fit a larger battery inside the iPhone Air 2’s slim chassis. According to the report, this may directly address one of the biggest complaints about the original model, as while its battery life was “decent for its size”, it still didn’t meet expectations for heavy all-day use.
Another improvement is reportedly coming with a camera upgrade. The same reports suggest that Apple is considering adding a second rear camera to the iPhone Air 2, possibly an ultra-wide lens. While the single-camera setup of the original iPhone Air managed to deliver good image quality, it lacked the flexibility that users now take for granted – especially when even mid-range smartphones offer multiple shooting options. The addition of a second lens will immediately make the Air series more competitive, giving users better framing options for landscapes, group shots, and travel photography.
iPhone Air 2 Launch Date
As per the launch timeline, Apple is reportedly in no rush to launch the iPhone Air 2 in the market. Rumors indicate that the device may not launch in 2026, with the company instead aligning its release closer to 2027, possibly alongside the 20th anniversary iPhone. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has also previously hinted that Apple never planned the Air lineup as an annual refresh, suggesting a more deliberate upgrade cycle focused on meaningful improvements rather than quick iterations.
