An Indian-origin man in Singapore has become an overnight millionaire after winning the grand prize of $1 million (Rs 8.45 crore) in a lucky draw last Sunday (November 24). The man, identified as Balasubramaniam Chithambaram, won the top prize after purchasing a gold chain for his wife from the store that conducted the lucky draw three months ago. Mustafa Jewellery, the shop running the competition, shared the news of the winner on social media, which made Mr Chithambaram very happy and surprised.

Notably, to be eligible to participate in the lucky draw, customers needed to spend more than Rs 15,786 on jewellery. Mr Chithambaram had bought gold jewelery worth Rs 3.7 lakh for his wife during his visit to the store.
“Today is also the fourth death anniversary of my father. It’s a blessing,” Mr Chithambaram said after winning the award, adding that he planned to donate a portion of the money to the community as a token of gratitude.
News of Mr Chitambaram winning the grand prize also reached the Singapore High Commission in India, which posted a congratulatory message for him.
