Indian cricket team welcomed in Delhi with special breakfast and trophy cake

The 2024 T20 World Cup champions Indian cricket team have finally reached home. The team, led by skipper Rohit Sharma, defeated South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling final. This was India’s second T20 World Cup title, having won it in South Africa in 2007. On Thursday, the Men in Blue checked in at the 5-star hotel ITC Maurya in Delhi’s Chanakyapuri. The hotel has done everything possible to make them feel at home, including their favourite breakfast dishes and a sumptuous cake designed in the colours of Team India’s jersey, topped with a chocolate T20 trophy.

“The cake is in the colours of the team’s jersey,” Chef Shivneet Pahoja of ITC Maurya told news agency ANI.

He said, “The main attraction is the trophy, it may look like a real trophy but it is made of chocolate. This is our welcome to the winning team. We have arranged breakfast at a special place and we will serve them special breakfast.”

Chef Pahoja said the breakfast will be a great mix of Indian cuisine to satiate the team’s hunger after a long tour, including players’ favourites like chole bhature and healthy millet dishes. Do we need to tell you how much Virat Kohli loves chole bhature? Can there be a better welcome than this? We don’t think so.

Chef Pahoja revealed that the cake was conceptualised on the day the team won the prestigious trophy for India, and the cooking team “spent the whole night” preparing the three-tier cake. “The chefs, pastry chefs and all the chefs worked all night, and the cake was ready by 5-5:30 am,” he added.

The chef also revealed that some free gifts were also given to the players’ hotel rooms to appreciate their hard work. “We have also included some really nice chocolates, as they might not have had chocolates for a long time and they might want some gifts for themselves,” Chef Pahoja said.
