India tried its first real-time use of satellite-based internet during Operation Brahma in New Delhi-Myanmar’s earthquake-hit residents.
Marking a huge jump, the Indian team established the OneWeb YouTelsat Terminal in Mandal, Myanmar to communicate with Aadhaar in New Delhi.
To date, India has not officially allowed any operator to provide satellite-based internet services in the country. Reliance -owned Jio, Elon Musk -owned Starlink Network and Onewab are designed to get a toobold in the market on a large scale that India offers.
On March 28, after a large scale 7.7 magnitude earthquake Myanmar and Thailand, New Delhi sent the first day to responders. Planlides of relief materials were sent, and an Army Field Hospital was established.
Onweb was given an provisional license to test technology before the earthquake on 21 November 2023. It established the first connectivity in Myanmar.
The Indian Army joined within 24 hours. He was also associated with the Field Hospital which was using OneWeb Leo (Low Earth Orbit) services, said that India, OneWeb YouTelsat, Regional Director, Kshetra Kapoor said.
Speaking at the India Defspace Seminar in New Delhi on 7 April, he called it a “humble experience”.
Onweb India had earlier obtained the necessary authority from the in-space to launch Eultsat commercial satellite broadband services in India. It was the first organization to provide this authority.
Eultsat Onweeb, Low-End-Arbit Operator, is part of the Eultsat group.
In-space is the Government of India agency, which is responsible for regulating space activities and providing authority to operate it. This authority means that Eultsat Onweeb can introduce commercial connectivity services as soon as possible by the government as spectrum allocation.
Last year, when the authority came, Sunil Bharti Mittal, the head of the Bharti Group, Joe is also part of the YouTelsat Group Board, said: “We are happy to note the green light of the Indian space regulator, which is to launch broadband services, the commercial satellite of YouTelst OneWeb in India”.
This, he had said, will be an important step to fulfill the ambition to provide internet connectivity for all of India and enable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Digital India.
He said, “YouTelsat is ready to deploy OneWeb as soon as it receives the final spectrum authority to launch commercial services,” he said.
Today, the ONEWEB team eagerly waits for the allocation of iconic spectrum from the Department of Telecommunications, before they can start operations.
Onweeb is essentially a business-to-consumer network rather than a business-to-business communication network, as its terminal-guound-based antennas that can send and receive signs from satellites-are renovated large.
On 16 May last year, Onweeb demonstrated its hardware and software to senior Indian armed forces officials at the Manekshaw Center in Delhi.
Some time ago, the team also performed a demonstration to the Indian Army units in Joshimath, where a mobile army vehicle was able to transfer a live video.
To provide the necessary connectivity, Onewab has worked closely with Airtel, Hughes and Kimta Corporation.
Ms. Kapoor claimed that she provides safe services to remote parts of the country through suitable terminated terminals that would offer encrypted services.
Onweeb has an motto to offer connectivity every time through a planetarium of “connectivity” everywhere, eight georestic satellites and 544 less earth orbital satellites.
Incidentally, Indian Space Agency ISRO launched 72 satellites for OneWeb, using Bahubali rockets, the first commercial deal for the launch vehicle Mark -3.
The satellite-based internet market took an interesting turn in early March when Reliance-owned JIO platforms and Airtel announced a tie-up with Starlink, Alone Musk’s LED company, already 7,000 small satellites in the orbit. Soon another 5,000 will be added.
Jio and Airtel opposed the introduction of Starlink on technical grounds. But both can finally get hands with Starlinks as Elon Musk’s owned company provides business to consumer connectivity.
So on the surface, it seems that the tie-up of Starlink with Airtel and Jio can offer spontaneous connectivity.
In a statement, YouTelst OneWeb claimed its current strong status in the Indian market, where OneWeb India already keeps a necessary license from the Department of Telecommunications to provide broadband services using satellite connectivity.
Business has also obtained the principle approval to set up and operate two gateways in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, which will protect the provision of significant high speed for customers across India after the roll out of services.
“Onweeb can add every corner of India. The only wait is for spectrum allocation and Onweb Eutelsat. After that it will be live all over India,” said Ms. Kapoor.
