Kevin, a gentle three-year-old Great Dane from Iowa, United States, was recognized as the world’s tallest male dog in June 2024 with an impressive height of 0.97 m (3 ft 2 in).
Sadly, Kevin’s life was cut short just days after receiving this accolade. He died during surgery after falling ill. He took over the record from Great Dane Zeus. His height was 3 feet 5.18 inches (1.046 m).

The title of largest known genome belongs to the Temesipteris oblongolata fork fern, which contains an astonishing 160.45 billion base pairs of DNA. It has overtaken the previous record holder, Paris japonica, a Japanese woodland plant whose genome is approximately 149 billion base pairs long.

Ruth Chepngetich of Kenya broke the women’s marathon world record with a clocking of 2 hours, 9 minutes and 56 seconds at the 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 13, 2024. Chepangetich made history as the first female athlete to complete 26.2. -mile distance in less than 2 hours 10 minutes. Her remarkable performance knocked off the previous world record by almost two minutes, breaking Ethiopia’s Tigaste Assefa’s previous record of 2:11:53.

French artist Richard Plaud has set a new record for the tallest matchstick sculpture at 7.18 meters (23 ft 6 in) in Sauzon, Charente-Maritime, France on 7 January 2024. Created over several years, this intricate masterpiece mirrors the Eiffel Tower. Used over 700,000 matchsticks.

World’s longest baguette
The Municipality of Suresnes, in collaboration with the Confédération National de la Boulangerie-Pâtisserie Française and Nutella, set a new world record for the longest baguette of 140.53 meters on May 5, 2024. A team of 12 French bakers from Suresnes successfully created a record-breaking 140.53-metre baguette, reclaiming the title for France after the Italian team achieved the feat in 2019.
