Trigger warning: This article mentions death.

An excerpt from Maya Henry’s novel, Looking Forward, has attracted the interest of many due to the eerie similarity between a scene from the book and the circumstances surrounding the late singer’s death.

According to Page Six, the book, written by Henry, which is seemingly “inspired by true events”, chronicles the volatile relationship between Oliver Smith, a British former member of the band 5Forward, and Mallory Hunt, a high fashion model.

In one scene in the book, the model visits her boyfriend, who, due to the influence of drugs, is behaving like an erratic person and is “repeatedly harming himself, driving himself into a frenzy.”

According to the outlet, in the book, Mallory pleads with Oliver to stop killing herself but before she can touch her boyfriend, he “springs to his feet.” Henry further wrote, “He looks at me for a moment, then turns on his heel and runs straight – oh no. F**k. The balcony.”

Oliver yells that he is going to “f***king kill” himself and wants to “die.” The balcony scene mentioned in the book is eerily similar and coincidentally similar to Payne’s demise.

In the story, the situation takes an unexpected turn when Mallory falls from the balcony, but fortunately, she survives with only minor injuries.

For those unaware, the One Direction alum and Henry were in a relationship from 2018 to 2022. A few days before his passing, Maya appeared on The Internet Is Dead podcast on Monday, and claimed that he often predicted his demise.

She alleged that since their separation, Payne had been constantly messaging her and that he would talk to her about not getting along well. She claimed, “He’s always going to play with death and be like, ‘Okay, I’m going to die.’ I’m not doing well.'”

Henry referred to his messages as “manipulative tactics” and alleged that he was attempting to make her feel bad for him, even though they had broken up.

Payne died on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. The 31-year-old musician reportedly died after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, where he was staying at the time of his demise.
