Xiaomi has unveiled the new Redmi A4 smartphone at IMC 2024, which will be its first 5G phone priced under Rs 10,000. For smartphones, Xiaomi has partnered with Qualcomm for the new Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chip that powers the smartphones. Xiaomi India President Muralikrishnan B said at the time of the phone’s unveiling that the commercial launch of the phone would be “later this year”.

We weren’t able to hold the device in our hands, but looking at the phone from a distance suggests that it will have a large, approximately 6.7-inch flat display. It has beautifully crafted flat corners with rounded edges and a round camera module at the back, which houses a dual camera setup and a 50-megapixel primary sensor. It could also mean a camera with the highest pixels under Rs 10,000.

We also see that the phone has a 3.5mm jack on the top edge. The demo featured two colors of the phone, a black and a silver.

This major partnership comes as Xiaomi completes 10 years of its business in India. The President of Xiaomi India says that in these 10 years the company has shipped 25 crore smartphones in the Indian market. Muralikrishnan says, 35 crore other devices have been sent during this period.

Xiaomi also announced its goals for the next 10 years. The President announced a goal of shipping 700 million devices over the next decade.

This initiative is part of the “5G for All” initiative. This collaboration is significant as it combines Snapdragon’s renowned chipset technology with Xiaomi’s focus on affordable, high-quality devices.

Integrating Snapdragon chipsets into Xiaomi’s budget offerings could bring better performance, efficiency, and 5G connectivity to a wider audience. This is a strategic move, as it is in line with the growing demand for capable yet affordable smartphones in India, making advanced features accessible to more users.

With Snapdragon’s advanced AI capabilities and Xiaomi’s market reach, this new device has the potential to set new standards in the budget category.
