‘I’m different’: Kate Winslet reveals she’s nothing like her iconic characters Rose and Iris amid Lee’s release

Kate Winslet is reflecting on her past iconic characters during her upcoming release, Lee, a gripping war drama that hits screens next month. In a chat with Times Radio, the actress spoke about her role in the new war film and also remembered her characters, Rose and Tilly, from Titanic and The Dressmaker.

Winslet humbly explained that although her roles have made a big impact on audiences and pop culture, she believes they are not the same as the characters she plays on screen.

During her interview, the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind actress passionately described her roles as “headstrong” and “daring.” Winslet said, “I’m different; I don’t think I’ve ever played someone who’s really like me. It’s really bizarre.”

She further added, “When I play those characters though, I definitely look for similarities between myself and that person.” However, the Hollywood star apparently claimed that she didn’t find too many similarities between herself and the roles she has played in the past, as the actress gave the example of her character, Mare Sheehan, who she couldn’t really connect with and claimed that she completely invented the character.

She added that after playing Lee in her upcoming film, she “has been through the process and has that same spirit of determination.”

She added, “I think when I was younger, I was a lot more rebellious; I think I had to stand up for myself a lot more in those days, but the culture in the film industry has changed a lot. It’s not like that anymore, but I think my passion and determination probably matches Lee Miller’s.”

Talking about the film Lee, Winslet will play the role of a Vogue model turned war photographer in this film. As for the plot of the film, the synopsis reads, “The story of photographer Elizabeth ‘Lee’ Miller, a fashion model who became an acclaimed war correspondent for Vogue magazine during World War II.”

Apart from Winslet, the film also stars Andy Samberg, Marion Cotillard, Jude Law, Andrea Riseborough and James Murray. Lee’s film is scheduled to release in theatres on September 20.
