IFFI to honor Rajinikanth, Balakrishna for 50 years in cinema: Dr L Murugan
Union Minister of State Dr. L Murugan announced that famous actors Rajinikanth and Nandamuri Balakrishna will be honored at IFFI, Goa. The honor recognizes his iconic work and profound impact on Indian film culture over five decades, marking 50 years in cinema.

Veteran actors Rajinikanth and Nandamuri Balakrishna will be honored at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on completing 50 years in cinema. Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting (MIB) Dr. L. Murugan gave this information to reporters in the presence of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
A PTI The report quoted Murugan as saying, “Legendary actors Rajinikanth and Nandamuri Balakrishna will be honored to mark 50 years in cinema, a milestone that celebrates their lasting impact on Indian film culture.”
“He will be felicitated at the closing ceremony in recognition of his distinguished work, wide popularity and contribution in shaping the Indian story over decades,” the Minister of State said.
Rajinikanth, recently joined Lokesh Kanagaraj’s ensemble project ‘Coolie’ (2025), With actors like Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Upendra and Aamir Khan. He is currently working on ‘Jailor 2’ directed by Nelson Dilipkumar.
On the other hand, Balakrishna is currently working on ‘Akhand 2: Thandavam’ and has another upcoming project with director Gopichand Malineni.
IFFI will start on November 20 and end on November 28. Its closing ceremony will be held at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium. The festival will be inaugurated with a grand float parade on the picturesque DB Bandodkar Road.
Earlier, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnav had talked about IFFI Goa 2025 and said, “IFFI 2025 marks an important chapter as it embraces inclusivity and diversity, showcasing voices from all corners of the world while highlighting the rich tapestry of Indian regional cinema.”
“By introducing programs focused on emerging filmmakers and digital storytelling, IFFI is nurturing platforms that foster new talent and celebrate the evolution of filmmaking in the digital age,” he said.
IFFI 2025 screenings will include acclaimed international award-winning and festival favorites, including films recognized at Cannes, Berlin, Locarno and Venice.
