Actor Huma Qureshi’s film ‘Bean’ is chaired by Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2025. The film will have a world premiere at the International Film Festival and is the only Indian film in the Discovery section.
‘Bayan’ has been selected for the section of TIFF, which has been a platform to demonstrate the functions of directors such as Christopher Nolan, Alphonso Curon and Barry Jenkins. The film in the lead role of Qureshi is a police procedural thriller. Directed by Bikas Ranjan Mishra, ‘Bayan’ will have a world premiere at the festival in September 2025.
Mishra described ‘Bayan’ as a poignant reflection of contemporary India, where “strength and penis intersections in unstable and often invisible ways.”
“It is my effort to bear a society witness in transition – and for the calm courage of those who choose to speak.” I am deeply honored for presenting my second feature, ‘Bain’ at the Toronto International Film Festival at Discovery Section – a platform that launched the trips of many filmmakers that I praise and cherish, “he said.
Qureshi called the ‘statement’ a “time and powerful story” about a woman caught in a crossfier of “Power, Faith, and Systemic Complete”, which would have to face the system designed to silence her.
“Bean” gave me an opportunity to play that kind of character, the way I was ready for a long time within the justice system, yet against the very big forces from myself. It was a complete pleasure to work with a team, which was so emotional and fearless in telling a story, who felt both important and universal, “said in a statement.
The ‘Bain’ actor also shared a gratitude post on his Instagram handle. His note reads, “I took a condition on this film. A small, persecuted story with a great soul. No big studio. No platform deal. There is no security trap. How much I believed in this story.”
It further read, “A time came when things looked difficult, but the passion of the director and producer and unprecedented crew never fights .. So this selection is a big victory for all of us !! I write this post with gratitude and it is a bit spectacular. We have done it … that gambling has paid.”
“There is no frills with ‘Bain’ without any frills for a global platform like Toronto International Film Festival, ‘Bain’ is proof that the passion still breaks down. It is for those who put it at risk for work,” their posts were concluded.
Shiladitya Bora of Platoon One, Indi Stallwart, whose previous work includes ‘Newton’ (official entry in India’s Academy Awards 2017) as well as ‘Sir’ (Cannes 2018) and ‘Gath’ (Berlynal 2023), said that the team has greatly honored the team to premiere ‘Bean’.
“We strongly believe that this is a film with a global appeal, and Tiff is the perfect launchpad to start its journey around the world. As a manufacturer, I am always looking for a script that could be a breakout film for everyone – and with ‘Bean’, I knew that we had some powerful sounds, our Athos, we had some powerful sounds. Challenged the stories.
‘Bayan’, with cinematography by Udit Khurana (Netflix’s ‘A Hunt for Veerappan’), claims an impressive team, was edited by the acclaim A Srikar Prasad (‘RRR’), which is designed for Ajay Jayant (designed for ‘warrant’ of Netflix) ‘Indian Shikari: A court murder’).
The film is supported by Hubbert Balls Fund of the International Film Festival Rotterdam and was developed in La Residency, which is a part of the program of Global Media Makers (GMM) Film Independent, Los Angeles. During the Residency, Bikas Ranjan Mishra was advised by the creator of Craig Majin (HBO’s’ Chernobyl ‘,’ The Last US) and was advised on the script of author Jeff Stockwell and Story Editor Ruth Etkinson.
Recently, actor Bobby Deol’s ‘Bandar’ was also selected to premiere in TIFF 2025.
Qureshi, who is excited by the Toronto Premier of his film, was last seen in a special presence in actor Rajkumar Rao’s ‘Malik’.
