Huawei Mate XT launched globally, but will it come to India?
Huawei has launched Mate XT globally, a three-tight phone that comes twice to convert to a 10.2-inch display. But, should Indian buyers also expect the phone to be launched in our country?
Listen to the story

Huawei Mate Xt-Huawei’s three-tight phone-anxiety has been launched globally. After its launch in September 2024, after being exclusive to China, the world’s first commercially available Tri-fold device is now available in select areas. Of course, Met XT stands out due to its unique design-reveal twice to convert a large-scale 10.2-inch tablet from a common book-style foldable phone. The global launch was announced in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where Huawei confirmed that Met XT would be available in the markets outside China. The device is priced at Eur 3,499 (about Rs 3,18,200) in Europe and 12,999 (about Rs 3,07,700) in the United Arab Emirates.
Unlike traditional foldables such as Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Vivo X Fold 3 Pro, which has a slab-phone-like cover screen, which opens to reveal a large interior display, Met XT twice. When closed, it has a 6.4 -inch cover screen for the use of regular smartphones. Once it opens it expands into a square 7.9-inch display, similar to book-style foldables. Opening it for the second time transforms it into a full 10.2-inch screen, making it the most versatile foldable.
For a foldable smartphone, the Huawei Mate Xt is impressively thin, when it is completely revealed and measured only 3.6 mm when turning 12.8 mm. Despite additional hinges and performance layers, it is only slightly thicker than Samsung’s fold 6, which is quite achievement in itself.
Huawei Mate Xt also packs some powerful hardware. It has a 50-megapixel primary camera with OIS and a variable aperture from f/1.2 to F/4.0. It is paired with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with 5.5X optical zoom and 50X digital zoom. For selfie, there is an 8-megapixel front camera.
For endurance, Huawei Mate XT has a 5,600mAh battery, which supports 66W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. Huawei also claims that the phone has an IPX8 rating for water resistance. However, like all recent Huawei devices, it lacks Google Play services and runs on EMUI 14.2, which is still based on Android but without official Google support.
Will India get Huawei Mate XT?
Despite its impressive hardware, Met Xt is unlikely to reach India. There is no word at the launch of India, and in reality, buyers in the country should not expect one. In addition, Huawei has not sold phones in the country for years, and due to no signal of return, there is no possibility of an official launch. For those interested in obtaining Met XT, importing would be the only option – although without local support, software limitations and a steep price tag, it is far from an ideal choice.
