Reflecting on his relationship with visual effects, Hrithik began his note, “Yes bad VFX exists. It’s so bad sometimes it’s painful to watch. Especially for me… and especially when it’s a film I’m a part of. As an 11-year-old kid I saw Back to the Future on a trip to London and it changed me forever. I became obsessed. I sat with my dad’s VHS player. Used to study the frames, pause-play-pause-play until I broke the player.” (sic).”

The actor’s comment about VFX being particularly disappointing “when it’s a film I’m a part of” also comes in the context of his recent release War 2, which faced criticism from a section of the audience over its visual effects, sparking a similar discussion online.

Drawn by that initial fascination, the actor praised filmmakers who attempt a large-scale cinematic approach. He highlighted projects like Kalki 2898 AD, Baahubali And RamayanaAlong with the work of his father Rakesh Roshan Someone… found it And Krish.

He wrote, “Today there are some special people among us, like the producers of films. Kalki 2898 AD, Bahubali, Ramayana, (For my father too) found someone And Krish Of course) are my heroes, they have the courage and vision to do something that has never been done – all for the love of cinema so that we – the audience, get to experience something that has never been seen before.”

Hrithik further emphasized that large-scale films come with significant risks and years of effort, driven by the desire to create an unforgettable experience for the audience. He appreciated such intention and described it as noble and worthy of appreciation. He also said that he is proud of Indian filmmakers and that he would happily be a part of such ambitious projects in any capacity.

Focusing on the audience, the actor pointed out VFX-heavy films require dedication Thousands of artists have been working tirelessly for many years. He urged viewers to view criticism with greater awareness and sensitivity to the effort involved.

He said that, based on their limited understanding and what they have learned, filmmakers adopt different VFX styles to bring their vision to life. He explained that, like comics or animation, some people may prefer the anime-style visuals, which are not as realistic as those seen in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. He said that although one may prefer one style over another, neither approach is wrong.

Concluding his note, Hrithik said, “You can’t criticize the maker just because he chose one style while you prefer another style. That’s not fair. So sometimes when you say “bad VFX.” Maybe it’s just a style you didn’t expect? So next time don’t just ask, “Is it realistic?” First ask, “Is it true to the story?” “Is it making me feel what the maker intended?” On this. “Debate. But debate it with awareness.”
