‘War 2′, the sixth installment of Yash Raj Films’ ambitious spy universe, is the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster War. Directed by Ayan Mukherjee and backed by Aditya Chopra’s YRF, the film was scheduled to release in theaters on August 14, 2025, after ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ (2012), ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ (2017), ‘War’ (2019), ‘Pathan’ (2023), and ‘Tiger 3’ (2023).
While Hrithik returned as Major Kabir Dhaliwal, the film marked the debut of Jr. NTR in Hindi cinema, portraying the lethal, lethal Agent Vikram. The cast also included Kiara Advani, Ashutosh Rana, Anil Kapoor and Varun Badola. Although ‘War 2’ was expected to be a huge success at the box office, it had a good start but failed to maintain its momentum.
India Today, in its review of the film, wrote, “An ineffective BGM (especially the lion’s roar for NTR), and misplaced songs do not satisfy your excitement of seeing a larger-than-life spy drama on the big screen. When the credits roll, you are left with the faint rumble of jet engines (running on a racetrack), and the feeling that the only real battle here is between logic and budget. And the budget wins.”
Hrithik will next be seen in his directorial debut ‘Krrish 4’. The announcement was made by his filmmaker father Rakesh Roshan, who will be co-producing the film with Aditya Chopra.
The actor will also be seen in the next project of Hombale Films, who is known for backing films like ‘Salaar’ (2023) and ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ (2025).
