How director Tarun Mansukhani predicted Priyanka’s global success with ‘desi girl’
Director Tarun Mansukhani recalled her rare, agenda-free friendship with Priyanka Chopra, the prestigious song ‘Desi Girl’. He also revealed his heartfelt desire to travel and shoot in Kashmir, highlighting his love for India in a special conversation with India today.

Director Tarun Mansukhani still recalls the moment that Priyanka Chopra became a desi girl not only on screen but in the history of pop culture. Today, in a special conversation with India, the director of ‘Doostana’ opened the origin of the song, her deep bond with Priyanka, and to find out her global success long before the world.
Talking to India Today today, Tarun opened about how the iconic track ‘Desi Girl’ became her. “When I was making ‘Dorostana’, we were looking for a song. And finally, I found this song – desi girl. I remember, at that time, we were only CDs. We were shooting some other scenes first, and I only got the song. I asked her to sit in the car so that she could hear on the appropriate speakers.”
While moving forward, he said, “I put him in the car, I put the CD, and – I think she will be able to tell you too – before I play the song, I said to him: ‘No matter how big you are, no matter how big you are, no matter where you go in life, they will always refer to you in this way.’ And I played the song.
Tarun recalled the spirit of the intestine that she had: “I knew from the moment – that this girl was going to be beyond the global. Because when I heard the song, I thought, ‘Oh my God, this girl … it is just her.”
The director talked about his extraordinary journey with real praise. “Of course, we always imagine the best for our friends, okay? We want them to be the richest, happiest people in the world. But he has crossed all of that, whatever we could imagine, beyond that. He has achieved more than that as we expected to him too,” he said.
He then said, “When it comes to Priyanka, I have a completely different relationship. We know each other during ‘Doostana’, and this friendship has developed from there. The bond that I share with her is very deep – for me, it seems to be karma.”

Describing his bond, he explained, “We are not on the phone every day. We talk very rarely – it is mostly just chat or Instagram share. But the relationship we have is something that feels that it feels.
The film makes their friendship rare in the industry, it is a lack of any agenda: “We never had friendship that was about work. It was never, ‘Oh, we need to be friends because then we can work together.” She thinks that I am a good director.
As our conversation with the director continued, we discovered their future projects and dream places. It was here that Tarun revealed a deep personal relationship at a place where he had never gone – Kashmir.
Tarun was asked if he would be open to shooting in Kashmir, looking at the current scenario, he said, “I would love it.
Mansukhani expressed his desire to locate Kashmir, not only as a filmmaker. He admitted that, despite his busy schedule, he is willing to experience long -term breathtaking beauty. “I unfortunately went away,” he revealed.
“So, I want and hope – after this film, when I get a break – I want to go. I want to go. I want to travel for some time – just get my country to see a lot more,” he said, reflecting the spirit of national pride.
Recently, Bobby Deol also took his next project to Kashmir. According to the report, he will shoot his next big show in Kashmir. He will be the first Bollywood star to lead a full -scale shoot in the region after a tragic incident in Pahalgam earlier this year.
