How Asha Bhosle helped Padmini Kolhapure get her first film

Padmini Kolhapure recalled how family member, late singer Asha Bhosle, helped her get her first film role. Asha Bhosle, honored with state awards, died on April 12 at the age of 92.

Actress Padmini Kolhapure has shared how she bagged her first film role thanks to late singer Asha Bhosle, who was also a family member. Kolhapure’s father, the late Pandharinath Kolhapure, was a cousin of Bhosle and his sister, the late Lata Mangeshkar.

Recalling her early days, Padmini said that Asha Bhosle introduced her to late actor Dev Anand, after which she got her first film. Ishq Ishq Ishq (1974). She fondly called Bhosale ‘Asha Atya’, which means father’s sister in Marathi, and remembers that she used to bring gifts every Diwali.

Talking about Bhosle’s acting debut in the film mother (2013) At the age of 79, Padmini said that Asha Bhosle agreed to do the film only if she was a part of it. Kolhapure shared more personal memories, recalling that on Bhosale’s last birthday, she had gifted sarees from her personal collection to Padmini and actor-politician Poonam Dhillon. He also told Bhosale’s fondness for Muga Mol Randai, a Saraswat dish from Goa, Karwar and Mangalore, which his father used to prepare.

Legendary singer Asha Bhosle died on Sunday at the age of 92 due to multi organ failure at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. His last rites were performed with state honors at Shivaji Park.

Bhosle, better known as Asha Tai, had a career spanning more than seven decades, during which she became a major figure in Indian music. He received prestigious awards including the Padma Vibhushan and Maharashtra Bhushan in recognition of his contribution to the industry.
