Set in Madhya Pradesh, the film focuses on Arjun Maurya, a retired soldier facing the challenges of civilian life and dealing with complex family dynamics.
The film is presented by Anil Kapoor in the lead and supported by Radhikka Madan, Saurabh Shukla, Aditya Rawal, Faisal Malik, Khushboo Sundar and Mona Singh.
Earlier, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap had shared his views after watching Subedar He wrote on Instagram that he wishes that the film be released in theatres.
“Subedar There should have been a theater at @primevideoin. Would love to experience this in theaters, it’s clearly shot on anamorphic for the big screen, designed for the big screen. @sureshtriveni creates a vast world of Bundelkhand/Chambal with its patriarchy and authority. Where women are as patriarchal as men and those who are not, she fights like the man who once gave birth to Phoolan Devi in this male-dominated hinterland of the ravines. The world has not changed since then, in fact it has become worse. And into that world comes ours Subedar. The world that also gave birth to Paan Singh Tomar is the ex-serviceman world versus the completely uncivilized civilian world, (sic)” he wrote.
Directed by Suresh Triveni, the film is streaming on Prime Video in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages.
