After wowing people with his portrayal of the iconic comic character Aquaman, Jason Momoa is officially returning to the DC Universe as the comics’ galactic bounty hunter Lobo. The actor confirmed the news by reposting the 2023 Fandango interview, calling Lobo his favorite character.
He said, “So there was Lobo…I collect comics, and I don’t do that much anymore, but he was always my favorite.” “I always wanted to play Lobo, because I was like, ‘Hello? “It’s the perfect role,” Momoa said in that interview.
In the Instagram post, in which he quoted himself from an old interview, the actor said that if he was ever offered to play the character he would be open to it. He said, “If they call and ask me to play their character, it’s fine—yes.” However, he cleared the air at that time saying that it is something he wants and there is no official announcement.
He said at the time, “Hey, call me sometime and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.” On December 30, the actor posted his quote on Instagram and captioned it “He called.”
According to multiple outlets, Momoa’s Lobo will appear in the Supergirl film that will also star House of the Dragon breakout Millie Alcock as Kara Zor-El.
I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie will direct the film, which also stars Matthias Schoenaerts as Yellow Hill villain Krem and Eve Ridley as galactic warrior Ruthye Marie Knoll. Although plot details have been kept under wraps, the film is rumored to be adapted from the comic book Supergirl: Women of Tomorrow.
The book’s story follows Ruthye, an alien girl who asks for Supergirl’s help in tracking down her father’s killers who have destroyed her world. James Gunn – who is leading the project – also confirmed Momoa’s casting on Twitter.
He shared a patriotic artwork of Lobo that shows the character holding a cigar in one hand and the American flag draped over his body. He captioned the post, “Welcome to #DCU, Jason Momoa.”
