Patriot, starring Mammootty and Mohanlal, was earlier announced to release in theaters on April 23, 2026. However, it appears that the team may skip the summer release due to being blacklisted by the theater association in Kerala.
Since the release date remains uncertain, the announcement of the film’s first single avoided mentioning any specific release date.
Is Mammootty-Mohanlal’s multistarrer espionage drama avoiding its April 23 release?
Patriot’s composer, Sushin Shyam, recently shared an official update about the first single from the film, “Kattu Thottapol”, featuring Kunchacko Boban and Darshana Rajendran. The track is scheduled to release on March 12, 2026.
Sharing the update, the composer wrote, “Kattu Thotapol releasing tomorrow! Stay tuned. Patriot – coming soon to theaters near you,” avoiding any mention of the initially announced release date of April 23, 2026.

For those unaware, there was reportedly a disagreement between the producers of Patriot and the exhibitors’ association in Kerala over the profit share of the film. Due to this issue, the film was blacklisted by the association, causing the team to avoid its initially planned release date. However, the makers have not yet released an official confirmation regarding the new release schedule of the film.
Patriot is an upcoming spy action drama which is said to revolve around a controversial intelligence mission. With Mammootty and Mohanlal headlining the project, the film marks the reunion of the stalwarts of Malayalam cinema after almost a decade.
Apart from the two superstars, the film also stars Kunchacko Boban, Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, Rajeev Menon, Revathi, Darshana Rajendran, Zareen Shihab and many others in lead roles.
Mohanlal and Mammootty’s workfront
After appearing in the period fantasy action film Vrishabh, Mohanlal has reunited with Thudram director Tharun Murthy for his next project. The upcoming film, tentatively titled L366, is touted to be a police action-comedy.
The makers have introduced her character as “TS Lovelegion”, with actress Meera Jasmine playing the co-lead role and reuniting with the superstar after many years.
Looking ahead, Mohanlal has also played cameo roles in films like Thudakkam, Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, and Jayasurya’s Kathanar – The Wild Sorcerer.
Mammootty, on the other hand, has completed the shooting of his next film Padayatra, directed by veteran filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan. The film also stars Grace Antony and Indrans in lead roles.
Additionally, the actor has been roped in to play an important role in the upcoming Dhanush-starrer film, tentatively titled D55, and he has reportedly started shooting for it.
