Dhanush and director Arun Matheswaran had earlier announced that their second collaboration after Captain Miller would be the Ilaiyaraaja biopic. However, since the production of the film has not yet begun, many speculated that the project has been shelved or the director has left it.
Amidst all this speculation, it has now become clear that the project is still in the works, and the claims of the filmmaker being out of it are false.
Is Arun Matheswaran still directing the Ilaiyaraaja biopic starring Dhanush?
In a new tweet, PRO Riaz K Ahmed clarified that Arun Matheswaran is still attached to the project. He revealed that any news doing the rounds on social media suggesting that the director has opted out is false.
Since Arun is currently involved in Lokesh Kanagaraj-starrer DC, the director will start shooting for the biopic only after the release of the romantic action film. Furthermore, the PRO also revealed that updates regarding Ilaiyaraaja’s biopic will be shared soon.
For those unaware, after the release of Captain Miller, Dhanush announced that he will be starring in a biopic based on legendary musician Ilaiyaraaja. The film was officially launched at an event, which was attended by Kamal Haasan as the chief guest.
Recent reports suggest that the upcoming film will focus on the musician’s early struggles and the beginning of his career, highlighting how he entered the world of cinema.
Arun Matheswaran’s next release
Director Arun Matheswaran is all set to hit the big screen this year with the romantic gangster action drama DC. The film is expected to be a contemporary adaptation of Devdas, focusing on the characters of Devdas and Chandramukhi, set against a gangster background.
Earlier, the makers had released the first look of the film, with composer Anirudh Ravichander composing the music and background score.

Dhanush will next be seen in the lead role in Kara. Directed by Por Thozhil fame Vignesh Raja, the film is an emotionally based thriller, starring Mamitha Baiju in the co-lead role. The film starring Karunas, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Jayaram and others in lead roles is expected to release by summer this year.
Looking to the future, the actor has also announced his next film, tentatively titled D55, to be directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy. Malayalam cinema superstar Mammootty plays an important role in the film, which stars Sai Pallavi and Sreeleela in the lead roles.
