Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has vowed to impose tougher security measures at the border and fix America’s broken immigration system, as she faces sustained political attacks on the issue by her Republican rival Donald Trump ahead of the November election. Had demanded to do.
Vice President Harris’ comments came during her visit to the US-Mexico border in Douglas, Arizona, on Friday.
Despite taking a tough stance on border security, Harris said she also supports a “pathway to citizenship” for undocumented immigrants currently in the US.
“As president, I will work with Congress to create a pathway to citizenship for hardworking immigrants who have lived here for years,” Harris said.
Harris was in Arizona to get a first-hand assessment of the security situation at the southern borders.
Criticizing former President Trump, he said politicians have refused to come together and fix the broken immigration system.
Illegal immigration is an issue Americans have become increasingly concerned about amid record levels of migrants entering the southern border in recent years.
She said, “As President, I will put politics aside to fix our immigration system and find solutions to problems that have persisted for too long… These issues are vitally important to our country. “
59-year-old Harris will face 78-year-old Trump in the presidential election to be held on November 5.
Noting that the contradictions in the 2024 election are clear, Harris said it is a choice between common sense solutions and the same old political games.
“In the four years that Donald Trump was president, he did nothing to fix our broken immigration system. He did not solve the shortage of immigration judges and border agents or create lawful pathways into our country. He did not stop our chronic asylum Did nothing to address the system and clearly did not work with other governments in our hemisphere to deal with a regional challenge,” he charged.
Harris criticized Trump for continuing to perpetuate the problem rather than trying to fix it.
“The American people deserve a president who cares more about border security than playing political games,” he said.
As a former border state attorney general, Harris said she understands what it means to lead border security and law enforcement, prosecuting transnational criminal organizations for trafficking in guns, drugs and human beings.
He thus revealed his vision to “target the entire global fentanyl supply chain” to “significantly reduce the flow of precursor chemicals from China” and protect Americans from the “unimaginable devastation” it would cause.
She said, “On behalf of all communities across our country who want to see solutions to these problems, I say: We cannot accept Donald Trump’s failure to lead. We cannot accept scapegoating or consequences instead of solutions.” Instead of rhetoric should not be allowed.”
In remarks earlier in the day, Trump attacked Harris for the unsafe border.
Trump said, “This is a bad time for Kamala to come to the border today. She had not been there for four years. Today she got there.”
Trump said that Harris has betrayed his oath.
“He let violent gangs fail our cities. He let our American sons and daughters be raped and murdered at the hands of cruel monsters. He let American communities be conquered. You go out to Aurora, Colorado, where they take over with AKs. They are occupying real estate in the ’47s. Kamala has turned small towns into distressed refugee camps.”
“What Kamala Harris has done is unforgivable. What she did is a crime. It should be criminal. There is no greater act of betrayal than subverting the sovereignty of your own country, and that’s what she did. She destroyed our country. That is, Trump alleged, “ruining our country.”
