Happy Patel: Dangerous Detective starring Vir Das in the lead has recorded a weak opening weekend. This spy comedy drama, released on January 16, could earn only Rs 10 crore. Rs 3.95 crore in first three days. Earning of Rs 1.35 crore on the third day. The film should have remained flat had it not been for the boost on Sunday. But, Happy Patel’s earnings registered a decline, which means that the film has sealed its fate at the box office over the weekend itself.
Although producer Aamir Khan’s creative approach helped in marketing the film, the actual promotional assets of the film could not ignite the spark among the audience. Furthermore, the film received average word-of-mouth, which is why Happy Patel could not show any signs of growth over the weekend. Had the film received a positive response, its box office performance would have been slightly better.
Jointly directed by Vir Das and Kavi Shastri, Happy Patel should aim for a strong hold on the weekdays to reach a respectable figure, which seems very unlikely at present. It is expected that the film will make its entire earning within Rs 200 crore. 10 crore nett mark in India, which will be a big disappointment for Aamir Khan Productions’ venture.
