Introduction and Specifications

It’s time for the new Samsung Galaxy S26 series, just days before MWC 2026. And after a year full of leaks and rumors, we’re seeing the Galaxy S26+ return for another round, with Samsung dropping Galaxy S26 Edge plans. at least for now.

The Ultra has once again garnered most of the attention, offering a few upgrades here and there, but it’s clear that Samsung’s efforts have once again gone towards building a more versatile and feature-rich AI ecosystem.

This means, don’t expect any groundbreaking hardware upgrades. Samsung didn’t change the recipe this year; It simply attempted to improve it through some software and AI trickery. We’re talking improvements in how you interact with Galaxy AI, performance and even camera optimizations.

Starting with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, apart from “Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for the Galaxy”, there are no other major hardware upgrades. “For Galaxy” refers to higher CPU and GPU clock speeds. Qualcomm and Samsung have once again collaborated on an improved version of the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, which is Samsung-exclusive.

Other notable changes in the S26 Ultra include a thinner and lighter body, faster wired charging, and wider apertures on the main and 5x telephoto cameras, which allow more light in for better performance in low light.

The Galaxy S26 and S26 Plus are largely the same as last year, with a few subtle changes to the vanilla S26 that may easily go unnoticed. Interestingly, Samsung didn’t go completely on Snapdragon this year as both models came with its new top-of-the-line Exynos 2600 in markets outside North America, China and Japan.

Exynos is a brand new cutting-edge chip built on the 2 nanometer node that is focused on accelerating AI tasks and their efficiency. It uses the latest Arm CPU cores, and instead of combining a large, middle, and small core cluster, it upgrades the small core to the middle core for higher efficiency tasks. The CPU promises 39% better CPU computing performance. The NPU here should have up to 113% more AI performance while reducing power consumption and latency.

The Xclipse 960 GPU is said to have twice as high computing performance and up to 50% better ray tracing performance.

The AI-based Visual Perception System (VPS) allows the ISP to recognize a variety of detailed elements within images and videos – even blinking – and process them in real-time, while reducing power consumption by up to 50% compared to its predecessor. and Deep Learning Video Noise Reduction (DVNR), which enhances video quality in low-light conditions at lower power.

Samsung Galaxy S26 and S26+

Aside from the silicon, the entry-level Galaxy S26 gets a display this year that’s grown from 6.2 to 6.3 inches, a one-notch larger battery, now at 4,300 mAh, but more importantly, Samsung is finally upgrading the base storage to 256GB without increasing the price.

Last but not least, Samsung is streamlining its Galaxy S series by unifying the design and colors of all three devices. Now, the Galaxy S26 also looks like a smaller-sized S26 Ultra, but that also means the S26 Ultra has also changed a bit, with more rounded corners than last year.
