Grammy 2026: Steven Spielberg achieves EGOT status with John Williams’ music, Kendrick Lamar breaks Jay-Z’s record

Steven Spielberg has secured one of the rarest awards in the entertainment industry by completing his EGOT by February 1, 2026. By John Williams By earning himself a Grammy Award for his contribution to music, he ensured that his name will be etched in the history of the Emmys, Grammys, Oscars and Tonys.

With the latest addition to the Grammy Awards, an outright EGOT was successfully clinched by American filmmaker, Steven Spielberg during the ceremony held on Sunday local time in Los Angeles. Honored with the Best Musical Film win for the musical by John Williams, to which he contributed as a producer, the 79-year-old made a big day for himself without even attending the ceremony. He joins a highly prestigious list of EGOT achievers including Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg, Viola Davis, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Elton John and others. There have only been 21 EGOT winners in history, making this a very special win for the director.

Meanwhile, another historic feat was accomplished by Kendrick Lamar, who made sure that his visit to the Peacock Theater was no routine feat this time. At this year’s ceremony, accepting Best Rap Album for GNX, Best Rap Song for TV Off, Best Melodic Rap Performance for Luther (with SZA), and Best Rap Performance for his feature on Chains & Whips, he officially surpasses Jay Z as the most awarded rapper in history.

The older star has 25 wins to his name; Meanwhile, the Not Like Us hitmaker has already put his name down at 26. He entered the ceremony with 22 runs and an impressive four with the bat. He could well add to his quarter century record by the end of the night, having taken a total of eight wins at this year’s event. Kendrick Lamar and Jay Z previously collaborated on a remix of B-Teach’s Don’t Kill My Vibe, which was released in 2013.
