On Thursday, the Ministry of Law and Justice of the Government of India announced that Nyay Setu will now be available to users on WhatsApp. The digital platform aims to provide legal aid to citizens. You can now get free legal advice through Nyay Setu on the messaging platform. Here is how it works.
What is Nyay Setu?
Nyay Setu is a digital initiative launched by the Government of India in August 2024. Its aim is to improve public access to legal aid. The service is designed to ensure that citizens receive prompt guidance without the need to navigate complex bureaucratic processes.
Now, with direct WhatsApp integration, it will be easier for citizens to access legal aid from the platform. In an ex post, the Ministry of Law and Justice wrote that this update “ensures that professional legal aid is always fast and accessible to every citizen.”
Nyay Setu leverages the popularity and reach of WhatsApp to bridge the gap between legal resources and Indian citizens. By offering a user-friendly interface within a widely used messaging app, the platform addresses common barriers related to legal access. Citizens no longer need to visit legal offices in person for basic assistance or information, making legal guidance more inclusive.
How to use Nyay Setu on WhatsApp?
If you want to get legal information or advice from Nyay Setu on WhatsApp, you can do so by messaging the number “7217711814” on the app. The number will appear on WhatsApp as “Tele-Law”, and will give you options for legal advice, legal information and legal assistance.
Nyay Setu chatbot will first ask you to verify your mobile number. Once verification is complete, you will be able to get legal advice in chat. We tried to use this feature, but the chatbot showed an error during the verification process.
However right now you can get legal information and legal assistance from Nyay Setu WhatsApp chatbot without verifying your mobile number.
