Google has reportedly confirmed that Android 15, the next major operating system update for Pixel and Android devices, will be released soon. According to a recent report by Android Authority, Google is planning to release the Android 15 update in October. However, the company has not given a specific release date, leaving users with a tentative timeline.

The report suggests that Google will not launch the update next month as initially expected. Instead, the tech giant is working to improve the stability of Android 15 ahead of its public release, which is now scheduled for sometime in mid-October. The decision is in line with Google’s recent update to the release notes for Android beta exit updates. The updated notes advise users who have opted out of the beta program to ignore any downgrade over-the-air (OTA) update notifications until the stable version of Android 15 is available.

According to a screenshot of the release notes shared by Android Authority, Google confirms that it plans to push the Android 15 update in October. The release notes read, “If you are waiting for the Android 15 stable update, please ignore this OTA until Android 15 becomes available in October. This update will install the latest public version of Android 14 on your device.”

Interestingly, this year, Google launched its new Pixel 9 series with Android 15 instead of Android 14. This was a bit disappointing, as Google usually ships the latest OS with the new generation of Pixel devices. Talking about the Pixel devices eligible for the Android 15 update, the list is huge, including both existing and older models. The list includes the Google Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 7a, Pixel 8, 8 Pro, 8a, Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and the recently introduced Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold are also set to get the update, ensuring that a wide range of users will benefit from the new OS.

Talking about the new features, the new OS for Android is bringing several updates to enhance user experience and privacy. Some of the major updates include partial screen sharing, allowing users to share or record only the app window instead of the entire screen, and satellite connectivity support, which expands communication capabilities beyond traditional networks.

Android 15 also introduces new in-app camera controls, offering better low-light performance and advanced flash strength adjustment, while a universal toggle for keyboard vibration control offers more customisation options for keyboard feedback.

Android 15 will also enhance Bluetooth capabilities with a new popup dialog for better management of connected devices and introduce Auracast audio sharing for seamless Bluetooth LE audio streaming to nearby devices. The update also integrates a high-quality webcam mode for Pixel devices, allowing for better video quality when using the device as a webcam.

For foldable devices, including the new Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Android 15 is bringing improved continuity features, allowing users to more efficiently manage app behavior on both the main and cover screens. The persistent taskbar is back for large-screen devices, offering more control over multitasking, and new Health Connect updates expand data support for fitness and health tracking.

The new OS update also brings several new accessibility features, such as predictive back gesture for seamless navigation and rich widget previews, making the user interface more intuitive and visually appealing.
