Google has recently launched Google AI Overview in 6 new countries including India. During Google I/O in May, the tech giant introduced AI Overview to the world, but launched it only in the US. Expanding the feature, Google is now bringing it to new countries: India, the United Kingdom, Japan, Indonesia, Mexico, and Brazil. Google defines AI Overview as a feature that provides users with concise and informative summaries of complex topics, helping them explore information more efficiently. With the US launch, the release only had an English version, but this time Google has made it available in local languages ​​as well.

In the blog post, Hema Budaraju, Senior Director of Product Management, Google Search, said, “Through our testing in these markets, we’ve found that people prefer using Search with AI overview, and they find their search results more useful. In fact, as part of testing, we’ve observed that Indian users hear AI overview responses more often than those in other countries.”

Making it bilingual for India, Google AI Overview understands and responds in both Hindi and English. It doesn’t stop there, it has been further customised for India with special features. Google also introduced popular India-first features that were well received during our Search Labs experiment. The company made it easier for Indian users to switch between English and Hindi results with a language toggle button and listen to responses with text-to-speech by tapping the ‘Listen’ button.

To expand its focus, AI Overview has now introduced more ways for users to check relevant websites when they search. After August 15, 2024, when you search on Google AI Overview, a new right link will display on desktop that will take you to a variety of other relevant information. This feature is also available on mobile by tapping the site icon in the top right. These updates are rolling out globally for AI Overview in all launched countries, as well as for Search Labs users in more than 120 countries and regions.
