Gavin and Stacey had a happy ending. The show’s final episode aired on 25 December and topped the list attracting the most viewers on Christmas Day. The BBC show surprised fans with the fact that it returned to their screens as a perfect celebration gift after the last episode, which aired five years ago.

As far as the episode aired in 2019, fans were left wondering what might have happened between Nessa and Smithy. Five years ago, the series was declared one of the top-rated shows on screen.

The show initially attracted 11.6 million viewers, which soon reached 18 million. The viewership for the last episode, released on the day of the festival, increased to 12.6 million.

The last episode did not disappoint viewers and the show’s writers, including Ruth Jones and James Corden, put everything they had into keeping the highlights of the special episode a secret.

The show stars Matthew Horne, Joanna Page, Larry Lamb and Rob Brydon.

Meanwhile, the finale of Gavin & Stacey beat other popular Christmas specials including Doctor Who and Wallace & Gromit. The first episode of the series aired in May 2007, and the plot revolved around two characters whose names are mentioned in the title.

The show’s official synopsis reads, “Gavin and Stacey have been continuing their romance online and over the telephone for the past six months. Now they want to be together, but will their friends and family let them do it?”

Not only fans and critics of the show, but also the cast, Corden and Jones watched the show’s final episode together. The talk show host shared a photo of the two on her Instagram and wrote in the caption, “We had to be together to watch tonight.”

He added, “We really hope you enjoy the finale of Gavin & Stacey. It has been the greatest privilege to make this show over the last 17 years.”
