According to a new study, the Mediterranean Sea has become Europe’s deepest garbage dump. Plastic waste generated by human activities is found in the 5,112-meter-deepening (16,770 ft) Calipso deep, located within the depth of the ionian Sea. A total of 167 objects, which are mainly included, are identified below, including metal drink cans and paper compartments.
“The category of the major litter by the material type is plastic, accounting for 88 % of the identified garbage items. No interaction has been found between garbage and rare life forms, which have been identified in the deep Eionian Sea so far,” has been published in the study. Sea pollution bulletin revealed.
Researchers at the University of Barcelona used a high -tech manned submarine, which is called a limited factor to reach the bottom of the trench. It was capable of covering a distance equal to 650 meters during a 43 -minute stay near the bottom.
Calipso deep is located 60 km west of the Peloponus coast in Greece in an area of high seismic activity due to active defects. It is quite standing, relieved and a slope of thousands of meters.
The study focuses on the interior of the gap which is described as “kidney -shaped” and measures up to 20 km 5 km in the area.

“Some light waste, such as plastic, comes from the coast, from where it saves the calipso, only 60 kilometers away. Some plastic, such as the bag, drift above the bottom, as long as they are not partially or completely buried, or disintegrate in small pieces,” Mickle Canals, Prof. and Professor, Professor, Professor, said the Professor, Professor, Professor said.
“We have also found evidence of dumping of bags filled with nonsense, as have been detected from a pile of garbage, followed by almost a rectangular furo.
Since the sea level is largely unknown for society, such as unlike the beaches or popular places such as the beach, it becomes difficult to raise social and political awareness about the conservation of these places.
The presence of debris has forced researchers to reduce waste, as well as to issue a serious warning of “implementing global policy tasks” to change the habits of consumption of people worldwide.
