Gangs of Wasseypur actor Piyush Mishra opens up on working with Ranbir Kapoor and Imtiaz Ali in Rockstar, Tamasha; Remembered the iconic ‘massage scene’

Piyush Mishra gave some iconic performances and songs to the Indian film industry. She also shared the screen with many notable stars like Ranbir Kapoor. While the senior actor talked about his career in an interview, he also talked about his experience of working with Ranbir Kapoor and Imtiaz Ali in Rockstar and Tamasha.

Actor, singer, lyricist, playwright, musician, screenwriter – there is nothing that Piyush Mishra has not done in his extensive career. While she is currently on her biggest India tour with her brand Ballimaaran, she also chatted with Bollywood Hungama. Talking about her personal and professional life, the artist shared what it was like working with Imtiaz Ali in the 2015 romantic-drama film Tamasha.

The Gangs of Wasseypur fame said that he paid for the role exactly as Ali had written it. In fact, he did it about 16 times. However, Mishra is quick to mention that the filmmaker has a unique way of making films. According to him, Imtiaz does not do retakes but instead he asks the actor to continue acting and he keeps doing the role. Then during editing he keeps the best parts in the film. He further told that both Ranbir Kapoor and he are trusted actors of Ali. Apart from this, their bonding on the set was also very good. Therefore, they would continue to do their work and maintain what they felt was right.

In the same conversation, The Shaukeens star said that working with the flamboyant filmmaker Amar Singh is always fun. Both the actors had a great time working with the director on his 2011 award-winning film, Rockstar. During this, he revealed about the iconic ‘Malayish scene’ of the film. Mishra made a revelation saying that he had told Imtiaz about that scene about 20 years ago.

“That massage scene, I had told it 20 years ago. Romeo and Juliet was being adapted in Old Delhi, I used it. (I told him about that dirty scene 20 years ago. I was in Delhi, filming the adaptation of the epic love story Romeo and Juliet, when I told him about it)” Piyush Mishra recalled.

Earlier this year, Mishra shared the screen with Pankaj Tripathi in Main Atal Hoon. On the other hand, Ranbir is shooting for Ramayan to be released during the Diwali 2025 weekend.
