From kachori to biryani, Imtiaz and Sajid Ali’s Lucknow tour was all about food

Lucknow has rightly earned the nickname of the land of Awadhi cuisine. The serene atmosphere and vintage ambiance of the city gets a Nawabi feel through its array of delicious food items. From juicy kebabs to aromatic biryani and mouth-watering sweets, Lucknow is a foodie’s paradise. Recently, acclaimed director Imtiaz Ali and his brother Sajid Ali, directors of the 2018 film Laila Majnu, Participated in Pak Yatra in Lucknow. In a picture posted by Imtiaz Ali on his Instagram Stories, Sajid was seen standing in a long queue to taste the crispy kachori along with other customers at Bajpayee Kachori Bhandar in Hazratganj. And guess what, two kachoris served with chickpeas cost just Rs 40 at the outlet.

“Distinguished film director Laila Majnu Long queue for Kachori in Lucknow. 2 world class kachoris and chole for Rs 40,” read Imtiaz Ali’s side note. If you are thinking of traveling to Lucknow, then blame rockstar Director.

Eating biryani is a must when you are in Lucknow. After the untold ritual, Imtiaz Ali visited the famous Idris Biryani. In a minimalist looking shop a group of men were probably engaged in the cooking process. ICYDK: Idris Biryani is known for its delicious Mutton Biryani, which is filled with tender and super soft meat pieces. Many people also like their Chicken Biryani equally. Although Imtiaz Ali’s food habits brought him to the shop, we couldn’t figure out whether he was immediately eating a plate of mutton biryani or not. “Behind the scenes,” read the caption. A “wow” GIF was also added to the post.

Imtiaz Ali likes the food of Lucknow very much. Also in January, the director visited the place and enjoyed exploring the diverse street food of Lucknow. Want to know what was on the menu? Well, the director ate a plate of the delicious chana puri combo. The puri was served with gram curry and garnished with fried green chillies, chopped onions and radishes. We can only imagine how good it would taste. Along with the post, Imtiaz Ali wrote, “The best of Lucknow!!!” Read all about it here.
