Irish singer-songwriter Niall Horan has paid an emotional tribute to his former One Direction member Liam Payne. He posted an old photo of Payne with him from his boy band days and wrote a condolence message expressing his disbelief at Payne’s tragic death.

In a lengthy note on social media, Niall Horan wrote, “I am completely devastated by the passing of my wonderful friend Liam. It doesn’t feel real at all. Liam had an energy for life and a passion for work that was infectious. He was the brightest in every room and always made everyone feel happy and safe.”

Reminiscing about their time together, Horan continued, “All the laughs and jokes we had over the years, sometimes about the simplest of things, come to mind through sadness.
