Former One Direction member and solo artist Liam Payne has died after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, according to Buenos Aires media. The news was announced on Wednesday, October 16.

According to reports, the 31-year-old British singer was found lifeless in the courtyard of the hotel in the Palermo district.

Argentina’s leading newspapers, La Nación And clarinQuoting officials who said police were called to the scene following an emergency report of “an aggressive individual possibly under the influence of drugs and alcohol.” Emergency medical personnel later confirmed Payne’s death.

“Our hearts are absolutely broken and we wish much light and strength to his family and loved ones,” MTV’s Latin American branch wrote in a post on social media platform X.

Liam Payne rose to international fame as part of the boy band, One Direction, which was created on The X Factor in 2010. The group, featuring Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson along with Liam, became a global sensation. The members pursued solo careers before disbanding in 2016.
