The executive committee of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) has resigned en masse after a heated discussion at its annual general body meeting. AMMA president Shweta Menon confirmed that the entire committee had resigned after the no-confidence motion was moved against the leadership.

The resignations followed discontent among a section of members, with several reportedly signing the no-confidence motion during the meeting. The development marked a dramatic turn for the present committee, which had created history in 2025 with actor Shweta Menon becoming president and actor Kukku Parameswaran taking charge as general secretary.

“All the members of the executive committee have resigned. The treasurer was absconding. When the AMMA office manager was sacked and a police complaint was later filed, the issue was not resolved. Instead, the treasurer went missing, which meant we could not submit accounts for that period. From September 1, all our accounts were in order. I can only say that I am relieved that I am no longer an AMMA member,” Shweta said after the third meeting. Told reporters. Manorama Online.

During the discussion, actor Ganesh Kumar spoke in support of the current leadership, while actor Mohanlal maintained a neutral stance. The committee took charge as part of a historic transition in the leadership of the organization, but it soon found itself at the center of several controversies that exposed divisions within AMMA.

Making history in 2025, the executive committee elected two women to its highest positions, with actor Shweta Menon taking charge as the first female president and actor Kukku Parameswaran stepping in as general secretary. Yet, this milestone was soon overshadowed by a series of controversies that created deep rifts within the guild, culminating in Sunday’s high-stakes fallout.

In her previous interaction at the India Today Conclave in September 2025, Shweta had reacted to the obscenity case filed against her when she was contesting for the post of president in the AMMA elections.

The actress had said that she was shocked by the case filed against her for acting in films made twelve years ago.
