Mumbai Police has invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) against the accused, taking forward the investigation into the shooting outside the Mumbai house of filmmaker Rohit Shetty. The move signals that investigators are treating the incident not as an isolated act of intimidation, but as part of a larger organized crime network with possible ties to notorious gangs.

The shooting, which occurred around 12:43 am on February 1, saw unidentified assailants fire four bullets outside Shetty’s residence, sparking concern in the film industry. Those arrested have been identified as Aditya Gayaki (19), Siddharth Yenpure (20), Samarth Pomaji (18), Swapnil Sakat (23) and Asaram Fasale. A senior police officer said some of the accused already had serious criminal cases registered against them, which led to the imposition of MCOCA.

The investigators have also named Shubham Lonkar, a known associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, as a wanted accused. Lonkar is accused of taking responsibility for planning the attack, further strengthening the aspect of organized crime.
