Farhan Akhtar reveals that Hrithik Roshan and not Shah Rukh Khan was the initial choice for Don; ‘When I was writing…’

Farhan Akhtar remade Amitabh Bachchan’s 1978 classic film Don with Shah Rukh Khan. The film released in 2006 and was followed by its sequel Don 2 in 2011. Meanwhile, fans are eagerly waiting for its third part with Ranveer Singh, the Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara actor recalled that he had promised Hrithik Roshan about the film, but King Khan was cast for it.

During a recent conversation on the Raaj Shamani podcast, Farhan Akhtar revealed that he and Hrithik Roshan had an “incredible” and “amazing time” working together on Lakshya. After this, he approached Roshan and told him about his plans to remake Don. Hrithik also told him that the idea sounded “amazing”.

Farhan had told Hrithik that he would bring it to him once he had written it. However, the actor revealed that while writing, he was considering only Shah Rukh Khan as the right choice for the role. He said, “When I was writing, the only face that came to my mind was Shah Rukh Khan, more than I knew him.” He highlighted their time together partying, spending time with common friends in Delhi and his “cinematic image”.

The Bhaag Milkha Bhaag actor said it was Shah Rukh’s personality, wit, sarcastic and self-deprecating sense of humour that made him think he could be the “best actor” for the role.

Meanwhile, Farhan had already promised Hrithik about the film. He then told Hrithik about casting Shah Rukh for the film. “I will never forget, he said, ‘Farhan, you have to make your film, and in the best way possible. If you think he is the right person, please go ahead and call him. Don’t worry about me.’ It was a very kind thing to do,” he added.

Interestingly, Hrithik did a cameo as Shah Rukh’s character in Don 2, which released in 2011. Apart from Don, Hrithik and Farhan have worked together in films like Luck By Chance and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.

Apart from this, Farhan Akhtar is all set to make Don 3 with Ranveer Singh and Kiara Advani in the lead roles.
