Farah Khan ‘thrilled and honored’ to be invited to Oscar voting panel by Academy

After receiving the invitation from the Academy, Farah Khan has shared a big update related to her career. The latest announcement also includes several prominent Indian film personalities. Here’s who made the list and why it matters.

Farah Khan has another reason to celebrate. The filmmaker-choreographer has been invited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to join its 2026 membership, making her one of the Indian film personalities who could soon be a part of the prestigious Oscar voting panel.

Khan shared the news with his followers on Instagram, expressing his excitement at the honour. Responding to the Academy’s invitation, she wrote, “I am thrilled and honored to be a part of this prestigious group.” If she accepts the invitation, she will join the global body responsible for voting on Oscar nominees and winners.

The Academy has invited 529 artists and executives from around the world to become members this year. The annual invitation recognizes professionals for their contributions to cinema across a variety of disciplines, while also expanding the organization’s international representation.

Farah Khan is also among many names associated with the Indian film industry in this year’s invite list. Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, known for critically acclaimed films like Maqbool, Omkara And Haider, Has also received the invitation.

The list also includes some of India’s most accomplished behind-the-scenes talents. Experienced editor A Sreekar Prasad and multiple National Award winning editor Deepa Bhatia have been invited to join the academy. Bhatia’s works include RRR, Dil Chahta Hai, Saathiya, Taare Zameen Par, Rock On!!, My Name Is Khan And kai po che.

Other Indian professionals invited this year include costume designer Eka Lakhani, casting director Dilip Shankar and documentary filmmaker Shalini Kantayya. The Academy has also invited professionals with strong ties to the Indian film industry, including Avneet Kaur in the Animation branch, Rajesh Ramachandran in Production and Technology and Becky Graham and Jai Mehta in the Visual Effects branch.

According to Variety, those who accept the invitation will become part of the academy’s global membership of more than 11,000 professionals. As members, they will receive full voting rights at the Oscars, helping decide nominees and winners at future Academy Awards.
