Director Shankar is currently busy promoting his next film Indian 2 aka Hindustani 2 starring Kamal Haasan. In an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla, the master craftsman made some insightful comments on being an inspiration to many directors of today.
Talking about this the director said, “I appreciate them. See, from a common man’s point of view you might think they are inspired by me. Maybe inspired or not, but I think they also want to say something. I appreciate the new breed of directors coming up with different ideas.”

Talking more about the new age directors and his recent films, Shankar was asked if he saw anything that surprised him. In response, the director said, “Sorry, for the last 4-5 months I was completely involved in the post-production of this film and I am also doing another film, you know Game Changer.”
Further, the director added, “So I get very little time to watch other films and whenever I watch, I tweet about that film. Recently I liked 12th Fail. It was a very good film, I enjoyed it a lot.”

Indian 2, starring Kamal Haasan and directed by S Shankar, is the official sequel to the 1996 classic hit Indian. The upcoming film takes forward the story of Senapathi, a veteran freedom fighter who takes over the reins of India to eradicate corruption in the country. The first installment ended with a rousing ending with Senapathi promising that he will return if he is needed again and now it seems like the time has come for him to return.
The film stars Siddharth, SJ Suryah, Rakul Preet Singh, Bobby Simha, Vivekh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Gulshan Grover, Samuthirakani, Nedumudi Venu, Brahmanandam among many others in the lead roles. The third installment of this film, financed by Lyca Productions, is also likely to release in 2025.
