Kartik Aryan entered Bollywood with Pyaar Ka Punchnama. But seven years after his debut, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety became a game-changer in the actor’s career. In his latest conversation with Pinkvilla, Kartik revealed that his monologues in Pyaar Ka Punchnama and its sequel made him popular. However, people did not know his name.
Then came Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, co-starring Sunny Singh and Nushrat Bharucha, and it brought him fame, success and more career opportunities.
Kartik Aryan was the latest guest on Pinkvilla Masterclass on IFP Season 14, where he was asked if he has ever tried to break his image of being a ‘monologue guy’. In his reaction, the Luka Chuppi actor said, “I didn’t want to break anything like that, I like the fact that people give me those long dialogues to speak, to perform, it’s just that my name is not there. Didn’t know tab, that’s the only thing.” (I didn’t want to break any image. I liked that people gave me big dialogues to say, but they didn’t know my name.)
Eventually, Kartik’s fortunes changed with the release of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety in 2018. This made him a household name and people started addressing the actor by his name.
Recalling the first time he felt a change, the actor said, “I remember going to Gaiety, Sunday after Friday and then it was housefull. So, people in the audience started calling me Karthik for the first time. He was saying my name for the first time.” (I remember when I went to Gaiety Cinema for the first time, people shouted and chanted my name.)
Giving more details about the impact of the film, Kartik shared that since the announcement of the title of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, there was a distinct excitement for the film among the audiences. The versatile actor recalled how many people came to him and questioned the title and told how strange it was. Apart from this, the concept of bromance instead of romance was new for the audience, which worked.
This film changed the direction of his career and brought him into the limelight. But, again, after the release he got a lot of offers for comedy films, and all he needed was a few films like Freddy and Dhamaka to prove his potential as a versatile actor.
On the professional front, Kartik Aryan’s next film, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, will release on November 1, 2024 and its trailer has already taken social media by storm.
