Gulshan Devaiah had a very fulfilling year in 2025 with multiple releases and new beginnings. The talented actor, loved for his performances in Kantara: Chapter 1 and Perfect Family, will now be seen in the Netflix show, Legacy. Gulshan spoke exclusively to Pinkvilla and revealed how her character in Legacy is different from the one she played in Dahad. The actor also shed light on working with Samantha in a new Telugu film, Maa Inti Bangaram.

1. How do you view the box office recognition of your films?
It’s certainly empowering in terms of career, profile and remuneration, but I’m careful not to take it too seriously. If it is taken too seriously, it can cause mental disturbances. Hit flops are part of an actor’s life.
2. Kantara started you off in the South, and you now have a few projects there. Do you see any differences between the film sets of South and Hindi cinema?
Apart from minor technical things, there is no real difference, but I have only worked on 2 projects now, so if there is a difference, I can’t claim to understand it.
3. What was more challenging for you between the physical and mental preparation to get into the role of Kulashekhar in Kantara?
The only challenge was riding the horse. I did 5 classes 2 hours a day and just focused on what I actually do with the horse. Luckily, I got a chance to train with the same horse, Azad, who was really very sweet. It can be difficult to control a horse in a chaotic environment.
4. You play a cop in Legacy. How is this character different from Inspector Devi Lal Singh in Dahar?
Police is a job, not a personality. The timeline, age, cultural background, education, outlook towards life, sense of duty, relationship with family… everything in Legacy is different from Devilal Singh in Dahar.
5. How was your experience shooting with Samantha in Maa Inti Bangaram? Is actor Samantha different from producer Samantha?
I have great chemistry with Sam (Samantha Ruth Prabhu). She’s just an actress on the set and that’s all we get to see. I am really enjoying. It’s still early days and there’s still a lot of film left to do, but it’s going to be a very gratifying experience. She is very sweet and very easy to work with.
