It’s a big wave, and Ranveer Singh is currently enjoying its unprecedented success. Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar is steadily moving towards the Rs 600 crore grossing mark, which it is expected to reach by Thursday. With viewership increasing during the New Year holidays, the film is also expected to have a massive fourth week, and may reach close to Rs 700 crore gross by the end of its run. The film continues to do well at the box office. Amidst this success, Pinkvilla has exclusively learned that Ranveer Singh has decided to walk away from Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s much-awaited Don 3.
A source close to the development reveals, “With the huge success of Dhurandhar, Ranveer is very clear about what kind of films he wants to do next. He is keen to collaborate with filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Lokesh Kanagaraj and Atlee, and at the same time, he doesn’t want to be seen in back-to-back gangster films, especially since Dhurandhar is already established in that field. This is one of the reasons he approached Jay Mehta for Pralay. Ranveer is keen to work on the project quickly and get it on the floors much earlier than planned.”
Tentatively titled Doomsday, it is based on the Applause Entertainment-backed film Zombie and tells a human story of how far a man will go to save his family in the most difficult of circumstances. The source further added, “Now that he has prioritized other projects over Don 3, Singh is now personally involved in aligning the dates and schedules for Jai Mehta’s film to ensure that the film moves forward swiftly.”
Coming back to Don 3, an insider confirmed, “Right after the release of Dhurandhar, Ranveer was supposed to start preparing for Don 3. However, considering the current situation, the film has now been pushed”.
For those unaware, Farhan Akhtar and the team behind Don 3 have already locked Kriti Sanon for the lead female role of the action thriller. The film is expected to be made on a large scale and shot extensively across multiple locations in Europe.
