Exclusive: Actress Nithya Menen reveals her last name is made up

Actress Nithya Menon told India Today.in that her surname ‘Menon’ is made up. She shed light on her real identity and the reason behind the change.

National Award winning actress Nithya Menon recently made a big revelation. She told IndiaToday.in that her surname ‘Menon’ is made up. Her real name is NS Nithya, the initials of which are taken from her mother Nalini and father Sukumar’s names.

Nithya, who recently won a National Award for her performance in Thiruchitrambalam, told us that she created her own surname and even changed it in court.

The actress said that no one in her family uses a surname as they do not want to associate their name with caste. However, they created a surname as it helps them in their passport while travelling. So, they used numerology and changed it to ‘Menon’.

Nithya further said that she and her family have been living in Bengaluru for three generations and she also studied Kannada as her second language in school.

She also revealed that she has always had an identity crisis. Nithya told us, “Many people assume that I am a Malayali. At heart, we are Bangaloreans. In fact, even today when I need to book a flight ticket for shooting, I am asked if it should be booked from Kochi.”

Meanwhile, Nithya Menen won the Best Actress award for director Mithran Jawahar’s film Thiruchitrambalam. Her portrayal of Shobhana was loved by many. She shared the award with Manasi Parekh (Kutch Express).

Now, he has joined hands with Vijay Sethupathi for a family drama directed by Pandiraj.
