Amid the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, a rare audio recording of a Russian fighter jet evading Ukraine’s Patriot air defense missiles has surfaced on social media. The clip, first shared on YouTube in July, shows the crew of a Russian Sukhoi Su-34 fighter-bomber achieving the extraordinary feat of escaping danger. The incident occurred near Mariupol in Ukraine. In the clip, the navigator can be heard warning the pilot about “multiple” missile launches from the Patriot SAM (surface-to-air missile) battery.
The recording surfaced on X on Friday after a user tweeted about the “exciting” audio. “Just heard the audio of a Russian Su-34 dodging two Patriot missiles. Gotta admit, the Russian pilots are skilled. The audio is hair-raising and the heavy breathing you hear by the end of the video doesn’t help “Making the video less disturbing,” the user wrote. According to the caption of the YouTube post, the Russian jet avoided the encounter by pulling away and firing the missiles in different directions. However, after one of the Patriot missiles exploded close to the Russian jet, its intercom was damaged.
The audio recording captured a real-life conversation between the Russian pilot commander and the sailor during the attack. In the audio file, the sailor is heard repeatedly asking the pilot to avoid the missiles.
“This is the encounter of a Russian Su-34 bomber (callsign “754”) and multiple launches from a Patriot SAM (surface-to-air missile) battery over Ukraine near Mariupol. The Su-34 carrying out its attack Was when he was engaged by a Ukrainian Patriot system,” the caption of the YouTube post read.

“The Su-34 then tried to avoid the threat by pulling and firing the missile in different directions to dissipate its energy, however the Patriot missile exploded somewhere close to the Su-34 and destroyed its intercom – The pilot, commander and navigator struggled to hear each other for the remainder of the flight,” it said.
This audio recording on social media has surprised the users. One “This was a really interesting audio, but I firmly believe there was luck involved rather than skill,” expressed another.
