Emraan Hashmi recently talked about the toughest phase of his life – when his son Ayaan was diagnosed with cancer in 2014. In a conversation, the actor recalled how that moment changed his life completely, his focus shifted from career and success to becoming a father, who is facing the biggest challenge of his life.

talking to Ranveer AllahabadiaImran recalled how normal life turned into shock within a matter of hours. “The hardest period of my life was when my son fell ill in 2014. And I can’t even put into words what that period was like. It lasted 5 years. My life changed in one afternoon. On January 13, we went for brunch. We were eating pizza with my son. The first symptom was rubbing on that table. There was blood in his urine. In the next 3 hours, we were in a doctor’s clinic. The doctor said that your son had cancer. You have to have surgery in OT the next day and then you have to go through chemotherapy, so my whole world changed in 12 hours.

The suddenness of the diagnosis made the pain even more difficult to overcome. There were no warnings, no gradual progression – just a clear divide between life before and after that afternoon.

Time further increased this shock. Imran admitted that things are finally starting to feel stable professionally and personally. “You can say there’s a high point in your life. And it felt like I’ve found it now. I’ve got a grip on life. Then suddenly you get a kick in the face. It happens,” he shared.

What followed was a five-year journey filled with hospital visits, treatment programs and constant fear. Imran had earlier talked about how that period had forced him to strip life of its essentials, where ambitions were left behind and spending every moment with his child became the priority.

The experience ultimately inspired the actor to write a book for parents dealing with similar situations, turning his personal trauma into a source of strength and guidance for others.

On the work front, the actor is currently enjoying a positive phase his recent series taskery Her restrained and mature performance is receiving warm response and appreciation.
